My Story: Third Generation Self Taught Baker
Hello!
My name is Julia, and I love to bake - shocker.
I was born and raised in Colombia to the sweet sound of salsa, but most importantly, to the breathtaking smell of in-the-oven chocolate cake made by my baking role model and muse - my grandma. My baking education started when I was about four years old, working alongside my grandma whenever she came to visit. She taught me the importance of creaming butter, among many other things, but this one has stuck with me all of these years because she made me do it by hand before graduating to a stand mixer. Yes, creaming butter by hand is as bad as it sounds. After many years of burnt cakes, messy kitchens, and wooden-spoon beat ups when I did something wrong, I finally obtained my cooking school degree from My Grandma's Culinary School, the best and most prestigious in the world. Unfortunately, she is not with us anymore, but every time I bake, I do my best to make her proud. After all, she would not want me to be saying she taught me most of the things I know today if I'm doing a crappy job, you know, her being the fancy and reputable lady she was.
I now live in London, and in my tiny kitchen (not the tiniest I've cooked in, for the record) I will be developing recipes for you, my readers, and ultimately, for my boyfriend (which you will see referenced as 👨🏼, who ends up eating everything I bake. By himself.
I am excited to share all the recipes and tips that I have been meticulously working on for the past lifetime, and can’t wait to see what you do with them!
Happy Baking!
Julia
